Gummy Bears Rumored for Switch

There is a fresh rumor suggesting that Bungie’s future live-service MOBA, Project Gummy Bears, could hit Nintendo Switch around the same time as the PS5 and PC. The title, rumors state, takes hints from Super Smash Bros. and will feature bright and family-oriented visuals that should attract the attention of the Switch audience.

First announced in 2023, Project Gummy Bears was defined as Bungie’s most highly expected incubation project. In contrast to the studio’s darker science-fiction franchises, it was meant to be lighter in tone. With the July 2024 layoffs at Bungie, however, the project was reassigned to a new team at PlayStation Studios. It has since been defined more specifically as a team-based MOBA with a focus on quick, pick-up-and-play action.

A Spanish website Vandal report states that Project Gummy Bears will be a multiplatform release, releasing at the same time on PS5, PC, and Switch. The report also predicted Sony would reveal the game in its February 2025 State of Play, which did not occur. This makes the rumor less credible, but it is still possible.

Sony’s renewed enthusiasm to release games on the Switch adds credibility to such speculations. Sony caught gamers off guard in November 2024 when it released LEGO Horizon Adventures on Nintendo’s platform, giving a hint towards a possible new direction. If Project Gummy Bears is part of the new direction, then a Switch release would not be surprising.

Nonetheless, a 2025 release does not appear to be on the cards. Development allegedly commenced less than two years ago, and after being handed over to a new team, it could still be in its infancy. If Bungie and Sony are setting up for a reveal, it might not occur until later this year or even 2026.

Until it is confirmed, this rumor has to be taken with caution. But if Project Gummy Bears does materialize on Switch, then that could be another sign of Sony branching out outside PlayStation, shipping more of its titles to a broader audience.
