Battlefield 6 Rumored to Bring Back Battle Royale Mode Missing from 2042

A new rumor suggests that Battlefield 6 may bring back a Battle Royale mode missing in Battlefield 2042, although it was attempted in Battlefield 5. If accurate, it could be major shift for the franchise, as it tries to recover from the mixed reviews of its previous game. This speculation comes from industry insider Tom Henderson, who simply said, “Yeah,” when asked about the chance of a Battle Royale in Battlefield 6.

However, no extra details were provided, but the news has already sparked conversations among fans on Social Media because of Battlefield’s background with large-scale battles. A well-designed Battle Royale mode could fit perfectly—especially if it learns from the mistakes of Firestorm, Battlefield 5’s short-lived attempt at the genre.

Firestorm, released in 2019, struggled to find audience. The mode’s limit of 64 players and requirement to own Battlefield 5 to play made it difficult to compete with free-to-play giants like Warzone and Fortnite. Its lack of support after launch didn’t help either. Because of this, DICE chose to completely abandon concept for Battlefield 2042. If Battlefield 6 decides to reintroduce Battle Royale, it will need to do it differently—perhaps by using free-to-play model or increasing player count.

However, Battlefield 6 still remains a mystery. EA has not yet confirmed release date although they recently announced Battlefield Labs, a new community-driven program aimed at ensuring next game launches smoothly. Along with Battle Royale rumors, other leaks suggest that Battlefield Portal—a mode that allows players to create their own games using elements from past titles—might also return.

Without any official announcement from EA or DICE, everything here remains speculation for now. However, if Battlefield 6 brings back Battle Royale, it could be a chance for the series to explore one of gaming’s most popular genres this time with lessons learned from the past firmly in mind. Although fans are eager for news, it’s important to remember that the development process can take time. But if they decide to include this feature, it might change game significantly.
