Civilization 7 gets Steam Deck Verification ahead of it’s February Release

Developer Firaxis has officially confirmed that the upcoming and highly anticipated Civilization 7 will be Steam Deck verified when it releases in February this year. A recent post from the game’s official X/Twitter account has announced that the latest entry in the legendary Turn-based Strategy series is now ” officially Steam Deck verified,” which would enable players to “Make history on the go.” This means Civilization 7 will be fully compatible with Valve’s popular handheld, featuring comprehensive support for both it’s native resolution and controls.

First announced at the Summer Game Fest in June 2024, Civilization 7 promises a “revolutionary new chapter” in the longstanding franchise as it will empower the players “to build the greatest empire the world has ever known.” The game’s release also sees a lengthy 8 years gap between it and the last entry in the franchise, Civilization 6 which came out back in 2016. The game is expected to bring whole new changes to it’s mechanics and take the series to bold new directions while keeping the core gameplay experience mostly in place. Civilization 7 is also supposed to introduce a revamped art style new for the series.

Meanwhile, Civilization 6 is also rated as ‘Playable’ on the Steam Deck but as it doesn’t have the Verified badge with the handheld, the game’s prone to some occasional issues during gameplay. But despite those, the game is still fairly compatible with the handheld device. Also, the Steam Deck’s hardware easily surpasses the minimum system requirements for Civilization 7 which includes 8GB of RAM, a GTX 1050 or RX 460, and i5-4690 or Ryzen 3 1200—or equivalent Processor. Based on this, it’s safe to say that the game will run exceedingly well on the handheld console.

Civilization 7 is headed to the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One and Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, and the PC platform (which includes both macOS and Linux) on February 11, 2025.
