Bungie gave a progress update on the Weightgate situation in Destiny 2, which includes a special emblem, projected fix date, and future plans.
According to the full comment Bungie hopes to have this included in the Nov. 5 hotfix. They mention concerns given how impactful it is, so there is a chance it might be delayed to prevent worse issues from arising.
In response players can use the code “VHT-6A7-3MM” on Bungie.net to get the Conqueror of Infinity emblem. This is a surprisingly old emblem that was never use for one reason, or another. For those curious this more than you’d think, with some of the coolest emblems going unused.
Bungie also mentioned possibly giving weapons with desired perk rolls, though nothing was committed. This would be massive for VS Chill Inhibitor, which remains one of the least common rolls due to this issue, though there is a lot of things to consider.
Following an overwhelming number of requests Bungie will also post a deep dive on this issue sometime in the future. No details were given, but it will be interesting to see how it works out.
The team is continuing to make progress in addressing issues impacting Perk RNG. Currently, we are targeting a hotfix for November 5, 2024. As this fix will touch code for a game-wide system, we’re giving the team a bit more time to fully validate the changes needed to address this issue.
In the long-term, we’re looking at a few options not only to thank many of you for your data-crunching, but to get some weapons in your hands that had perk rolls with lower RNG chances than intended. First and foremost, we found a fitting emblem deep within our vaults that almost seemed destined for this.
The emblem will represent a moment in time when many throughout the community came together to help us identify this issue. Between your data and our simulations for hundreds of thousands of drops… we’re all becoming Conquerors of Infinity.
Redeem the following code at https://bung.ie/3CbOhtP or Bungie.net/Redeem: VHT-6A7-3MM
Additionally, we’re looking at some opportunities to get fun loot in your hands at a later date. Not only will our RNG systems be fixed up, but you’ll have more opportunities to snag some rolls you’ve been looking for.
We’re also looking to have a future deep dive article from the team on this, talking through our investigation and how interesting this issue was to dig through on our side.
Stay tuned for additional details.
For those unfamiliar with the “weightgate” situation, essentially several guns dropped in a specific pattern that favored certain rolls over others. Bungie initially confirmed speculation was incorrect, but following additional data realized there was something going on. It’s an interesting situation, and well worth reading our expanded overview.
