Ubisoft and Evil Empire have decided to delay the early access release of their new game, The Rogue Prince of Persia. This move aims to avoid a direct clash with Supergiant Games’ Hades 2, which has recently launched to spectacular numbers.
Originally set for May 14, The Rogue Prince of Persia will now launch at a later date in May. The decision comes as Hades 2 quickly became a sensation, dominating the gaming scene with its early access release.
“Honestly, everyone and their mom is playing Hades 2 right now, including our team,” the developers stated. They plan to announce a new launch date on May 13.
It’s rare for a game to delay its release specifically due to the launch of another title. For instance, last year, when Don’t Nod postponed Banishers, they cited a crowded fall schedule rather than one specific competitor.
The delay reflects not only the immediate impact of Hades 2‘s success but also broader concerns about the viability of The Rogue Prince of Persia as a franchise. This strategic decision underlines the challenges and dynamics within the roguelike genre, where timing and visibility can significantly impact a game’s success.
