Destiny 2 The Final Shape Now Releasing June 4, 2024

Bungie confirmed the long rumored delay of Destiny 2: The Final Shape is real. The expansion will now release on June 4, 2024.

Bungie’s explains the delay is to deliver a “bigger and bolder vision,” though no specifics on what that means were given. The same statement also confirmed what players can expect to do in the additional months.

In Feb., a new “weekly progression-based quest” referred to as Wishes will be added with the usual Moments of Triumph. Guardian Games will now take place in Mar., with Apr. adding a “two-month content update” called Destiny 2: Into the Light. Finally in May three new PvP maps will be added to spice up Crucible.

Those interested in the full statement can find it below.

Hey everyone. We’ll keep it short and simple. The Final Shape needs more time to become exactly what we want it to be, so we’re moving its release date to June 4, 2024.

The Final Shape is the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together. We want to honor that journey, so we’re taking the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come.

Naturally, this change brings up questions about our upcoming release calendar. Season of the Wish begins tomorrow and will extend until the launch of The Final Shape in June. While the majority of content and narrative for Season of the Wish will run from late November to February as originally planned, the team is adding new content available for all players to jump into until the launch of The Final Shape.

In February, this will include new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes, and the launch of Moments of Triumph with unique rewards.  Next, we’re moving Guardian Games up to March with a refreshed focus on class vs. class competition. Then, beginning in April, we’re delivering a two-month content update available to everyone called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler. All of this is in addition to the ongoing efforts from our PvP Strike Team, including three new PvP maps dropping in May.

We know you’re eager to get your hands on The Final Shape. In that sense, delays aren’t fun. For our part, we are excited to have the extra time needed to bring our vision for The Final Shape to life for all of you. We’re looking forward to sharing much more in April, including all-new gameplay, to showcase the significant content additions currently in development.

Thanks for reading and for being on this journey with us.

Bungie Blog

While that covers Destiny 2’s not so distant future, several things were leaked and revealed about Season of the Wish, which releases tomorrow.

As previously revealed, Season of the Wish will have cosmetics inspired by The Witcher. The collection includes a Ghost shell, ship, Sparrow, emote, finisher, and armor ornaments. These will likely be Silver only like the previous two collaborations.

Destiny Bulletin posted to X the new dungeon will be called “Warlords Ruin.” Bungie previously confirmed it will release on Friday, Dec. 1.

On Discord notable Destiny 2 leaker Liz revealed some things about Season of the Wish. Supposedly there will be no new Ahamkara. This suggests the Ahamkara egg recovered at the end of Season of the Witch will not hatch, though time will ultimately tell. Shadowkeep’s Vex Offensive weapons will apparently be refreshed as well. Finally, Warlords Ruin will supposedly be a “Dark Aged” theme dungeon with an exotic sidearm. Other reports indicate it’s a special sidearm, though no confirmation on what it does.

Given Dragon’s Breath was confirmed to be the season pass exotic, and got a pretty interesting rework, hopefully it will be better than players imagine.

DRAGON’S BREATH REIMAGINED

From the flames emerges a classic! The Dragon’s Breath Exotic Rocket Launcher returns in Season of the Wish’s Seasonal reward track. This Exotic has been reimagined to sow mayhem around it.

Let’s take a look at what makes this Exotic a hot item.

Burn the World (Exotic Intrinsic)

The fuel counter passively increases the longer you go without firing it, to a maximum of x5. Firing Dragon’s Breath then empties this counter, transferring all fuel to the rocket.

Rockets then embed themselves in struck targets causing Scorch damage and periodically ejecting incendiary fuel into pools around the target that inflict Scorch damage to anyone standing in them. The more fuel a rocket is fired with, the longer it lasts before detonating and the more fire it spreads.

High Octane (Exotic Intrinsic)

With this Intrinsic, nearby ignitions instantly refill your Dragon’s Breath with 2 fuel. Plus, when its fuel fully refills, it reloads itself!

Once you’ve got this thing in hand, make sure to pay a visit to the Gunsmith in the Tower so you can get the quest for the Exotic catalyst. Speaking of which…

Pyromancer (Exotic Catalyst)

This catalyst passively replenishes your Dragon Breath’s fuel faster. Eliminating combatants with this weapon causes them to spawn Firesprites, too.

This Week in Destiny

Expect all of these answers and more when Destiny 2: Season of the Wish releases later today.
