Dragami Games announced in 2022 that they would be heading the efforts to resurrect the cult classic, Lollipop Chainsaw, after they had successfully purchased the rights from Kadokawa Games. The team behind this remake revival is led by Yoshimi Yasuda, the original game’s producer and publisher CEO, and contains multiple members of the original Lollipop Chainsaw team — it is worth noting that James Gunn, Suda51 and Tara Strong are not associated with this remake, however. Little else was known besides the remake’s existence following the announcement and while we still know very little, Dragami Games has ended a yearlong silence to provide an update.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, as it is now officially called, may have gained a name, but it has lost its 2023 release window. The cheerleader-turned-zombie slayer, Juliet Starling, won’t be cutting down the undead until Summer 2024 now. Yasuda took to Twitter following the title and delay reveal by the Dragami Games’ account to add a statement of his own:
We are working hard on game development, but we need a little more time. We will do our best to create the game that you will love, so we ask for your continued support.
Oddly enough, we are still in the dark regarding which platforms Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will be landing on this time around. The original launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but it never made its way to PC. We’ll have to continue waiting to find out if the remake will be introducing any new platform ecosystems with its updated release.
