Sony revealed this month’s 24 hour PlayStation Stars collectible is in honor of National Waffle Day.
While these collectibles have historically been somewhat obtuse, Aug. 24 is actually considered National Waffle Day. It was named that in honor of Cornelius Swarthout of Troy earning the patent for the waffle iron on Aug. 24, 1869.
To earn it simply play any PlayStation 4/5 game today and it will unlock. I personally had to leave a game to get it to unlock, but it shouldn’t be much of a hassle.
At first glance some people might think this collectible honors VHS, but it’s actually a Betamax cassette. The often joked about format was developed by Sony back in the ’70s. This was likely a deliberate choice as people commonly argue about waffles or pancakes being the better breakfast meal.
