Now that Destiny 2 players finally have the iconic Gjallarhorn, the next step is to upgrade it. Thankfully, Bungie recognized the love of the weapon and made the requirements rather simple. There isn’t a huge grind, nor a massive set of requirements, though they can be rather esoteric. Thankfully, we’re here to make it easier.
Since the catalyst requires players return to the Grasp of Avarice, it’s important to maximize your time. For this reason, if you’ve already done it this week you might want to wait until reset so you can get loot. After the first week this will be corrected, so keep that in mind. As for the hardcore players out there, finishing it on both Legend and Master difficulty will yield loot, so if you did one, I suggest doing the other. It also helps to do The Richest Dead Man Alive triumph on this run.
This will unlock one of the ornaments for Gjallarhorn, which is really nice looking and can be found above. Due to the complexity we included YouTuber 360GameTV‘s guide, which can be found below.
At this point you should have Gjallarhorn, which is unlocked by completing the And Out Fly the Wolves quest. If you haven’t done that, I suggest checking out our guide here for more information.
Thankfully, this is a pretty easy mission, though it can be somewhat confusing. Unfortunately, it must be done in a single go and any mistake will force you to restart.
To unlock the catalyst you need to find three specific chests hidden in the Grasp of Avarice. They’re not extremely well hidden, though a mistake can cost you. To open them, you must fight a Reaver Vandal that drops Burden by Riches when it takes enough damage.
This is the location of the first one, which is shortly into the Dungeon. After making the first jump in the cave, you should see a section where you walk across a diamond. On the other side you’ll find the second message needed for the ornament and on the right the Vandal. Damage it until you’re Burdened by Riches and then return to the previous area. On the scaffolding on the other side you should find a chest, which contains the first piece.
Unlike the first, the second chest is pretty easy to find and unlock. You’ll find the Reaver Vandal on the way to the first boss, in dark room. You should notice it immediately, if only for the fact it has a lot of health.
After heading up the vent, you’ll find it to the right on the ledge pictured here.
Unlike the previous two, I strongly suggest working as a team to get this one.
After breaking the shield, you’ll find the Reaver Vandal in the area pictured above. The simplest way to get there is to set the cannon to shoot over there, set up the cannon to return to that area and get Burden by Riches. Once you have it, use a scorch cannon to return to the other side and jump on the building in the middle. Please note, the window to do it is pretty small, but you have unlimited time/attempts.
