Audeze Announces LCD-5, Their Latest Flagship Planar Magnetic Headphone

Audeze announced their latest addition to their celebrated LCD line, LCD-5 as their new flagship planar magnetic headphone.

While it’s hard to top their LCD-4, Audeze revealed a couple exciting new features, including reduced weight for the upcoming headset.

New Parallel UniforceTM diaphragms and FluxorTM Magnets provide
powerful sound, unparalleled sonic detail, and incredible accuracy
without increasing the impedance

New internally sloped earpads that help to reduce unwanted resonances
and interior reflections

Newly designed Fazors that are optimized to reduce diffractions

The LCD-5 cable is specially tuned with directional OCC high-purity
copper strands that provide a low capacitance and low resistance path
to maintain unsurpassed clarity and precision.

The LCD-5’s fully re-designed magnesium frame provides rigidity and
ultra-light weight, while the acetate rings offer just the right touch of
richness

Audeze Press Release

The last feature is honestly one of the biggest, which brings the previous 690g (1.52 lbs) to 420g (.92 lbs). This makes them roughly 33 percent lighter and certainly a standout feature.

In honor of the event, Sankar Thiagasamudram, Audeze Founder and CEO, had the following to say:

Featuring our core technologies while adding some new innovations like our
Parallel Uniforce voice coil, the LCD-5 incorporates decades of audio and
technology research to deliver all the aspects of a truly reference audio
experience.

Our long term commitment to delivering reference products has led us to the LCD-5.

Audeze Press Release

During my meeting with Thiagasamudram, where I heard CRBN, I also had the pleasure of seeing a production model of LCD-5. Unfortunately, I was not able to hear them at that time, but they were a far lighter than I was expecting and comfortable for the brief period I tried them on.

Those interested in trying LCD-5 will have two opportunities in the near future. Those in the California area will be able to check them out this years CanJam SoCal on Sept. 25 or 26. If you miss that chance, the next one will be at the Capital Audio Fest, Nov. 5 through 7, in Washington.

Preorders for LCD-5 are currently available on Audeze website for $4,500 with an Oct. 2021 release date.
