This past year there have been a number of reports of Rockstar revisiting Grand Theft Auto San Andrea, Vice City and III, with the latest coming from sources close to Kotaku.
According to their sources, who previously gave accurate information about GTA Online and Red Dead Online, the upcoming titles have been described as follows:
Rockstar is actively developing remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. All three of these games are being remastered using Unreal Engine and will be a mix of “new and old graphics.” One source who claims to have seen a snippet of the games in action said that the visuals reminded them of a heavily-modded version of a classic GTA title. The UI for the games are being updated too, but will retain the same classic style. No details were shared about gameplay, but Kotaku has been told these remastered titles are trying to stay true to the PS2-era GTA games as much as possible.
Kotaku
In addition to Kotaku, sources close to Gematsu are saying similar things. However, their sources suggest some content will be changed to suit a “modern audience.” Andy Robinson, from Video Games Chronicle, can also corroborate what Kotaku is saying.
While time will tell, the three titles will release in a bundle, that might be digital only, set to release in Oct. or Nov. 2021 for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series, PC, Stadia, and Switch.
