Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 is only scheduled for release on the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S which will obviously result in a massive spike in sales for the consoles once the open world behemoth comes out later this year. But the ongoing RAMpocalypse which has skyrocketed prices for memory and storage supplies across the entire industry and resulted in soaring component prices, has also hit the consoles really hard, giving rise to the possibility that there may not be enough consoles to play GTA 6 this year.

However, Sony has confirmed in it’s recent first quarter financial results that the company has been able to secure the amount of memory needed for meeting its PS5 sales targets for the financial year ending March 31, 2027 which means there won’t be a dearth of PS5 when GTA 6 comes out. Sony has also released the following official statement, putting out all fears of console shortages when it comes to the Playstation:

“Regarding the impact of memory market conditions on PlayStation 5 hardware, we have secured the quantity of memory necessary to meet our projected sales volume for FY26, and there is no change to our plan for hardware profitability for FY26 to remain similar to FY25.”

Previously, Sony had also boldly claimed that GTA 6 is going to play the best on the PS5, stating: “Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19.”

Sony had also confirmed that GTA 6 will have near-instant load times thanks to the PS5’s ultra-fast SSD: “Grand Theft Auto VI also leverages the PS5’s ultra-high speed SSD, enabling you to experience the expansive world of Leonida with near-instant load times.”

GTA 6 is currently slated to launch for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
