It was previously revealed that EA’s College Football 27 which came out on July 2 for players with early access courtesy of the game’s MVP+ membership, had contained microtransactions in various forms such as if you want to upgrade your player or coach or even some of the other items, you needed to pay real-world money. Needless to say, this sparked waves of negative reactions among players and across the game’s community in general and now EA has announced that they’re on their way to course-correct on the microtransactions in College Football 27’s single-player offline modes which are namely Dynasty and Road to Glory.
The developers released an official statement on Friday, acknowledging that they “missed the mark with the introduction of paid progression options”, while also stating the following:
“This was added independent of deeper mode progression with the aim to give players more choice, but what you’ve said is that they’re not adding the value we intended,” the studio said. “Tomorrow (Saturday) morning, we will remove all paid progression options from Road to Glory and Online Dynasty.”
EA’s move to remove the microtransactions has been received favorably by the creators who had previously called out the publisher for the additions, with creator Bordeaux who started the “#CFBPlayDontPay” movement on social media earlier this week, now stating:“I’m glad they backed down; I’m very proud of the community for how supportive they were”.
Also Drew, aka Not The Expert has stated: “[We] needed the entire community to make some noise. The different channels and modes of influence colliding together is what created the perfect storm to make this a reality.”
But although EA has decided to remove the extra purchases from College Football 27 for now, those elements may return to the franchise at some point in the future, as the company had also said in their official statement that it’s “goal for live service plans in CFB28 and beyond will be to deliver valuable features and content with greater transparency and communication.”
College Football 27 was released on July 9, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
