Stellar Blade Blood Rain, an expansion to the original 2024 action adventure title, was announced during this year’s Summer Game Fest with a brand new trailer showcasing the game’s narrative backdrop, a new protagonist named Evie and a whole new combat system. However, the visual design of the new main character was a bit divisive, with many players pointing out of her childish looks which contrasted with her voice acting and overall physical appearance.
And in a new interview with IGN, Shift Up CEO Hyung-tae Kim confirmed that the design choices for Evie as a junior, younger version of Eve who’s the protagonist of the first Stellar Blade, is deliberate and it would make total sense when playing the upcoming game.
“Yes. She is younger. She’s smaller in size. She’s shorter than Eve,” he said, “but she has a stronger personality and engages in much tougher battles. And she’s actually part of a special squad that chases after a group of terrorists who cause terror attacks here and there in the city.”
“I definitely like how Eve looked in the previous Stellar Blade. But this time, Evie, not just her physical looks, but her personality, the way she talks, the way she engages in battles, all that will combine together, and you’ll see that she’s a very lovable character.”
The CEO also stated that the narrative in Stellar Blade Blood Rain is standalone and doesn’t require you to play the first game in order to enjoy it fully:
“Well, first of all, the sequel story, it stands alone so you don’t have to know the previous story to properly enjoy this,” replied Hyung-tae Kim. “But if you did play the first one, you will see a lot of points here and there, very memorable and impressive moments where it’s like, ‘Oh, so that’s what happened. That’s what it turned out to be.’”
