Proton has received a major update, making the year of Linux desktop a reality. Now PC gamers of every background can enjoy some real gaming. Safe to say, gaming on Linux was already pretty good, as long as you don’t care about slop like most Live Service games with Kernel Level Anti Cheat that spies on every activity you do, you are golden. Real gamers play single player games and compete in 1v1 experiences if the opportunity arises. Thanks to this Proton 10 upgrade, things can sail smooth for Linux users. We at Infinite Start will cover this renewed Proton 10.
This new version of Proton will enhance compatibility with a ton of games in the current market. From Assassin’s Creed Shadows (if you even wish to play that), to Clair Obsur, this patch has it all. Proton is actually based on an open source project that already existed since decades now, it was called WINE. Wine is not a Windows Emulator, but a compatibility layer that assists Linux users with translating binaries exclusive to Windows, right to Linux. In more simpler terms, Linux can use Windows applications, making Windows worthless.
There’s also a ton of applications that are exclusive to Linux, along with the fact that the desktop experience is getting easier. If you have a Steam Deck, you are a Linux user, if you have an Android phone, you are also using Linux. People seek the most outlandish of excuses to not switch to the better operating system, even when there’s valid excuses. That makes it seem as if they were Windows employees shilling for the failing OS.
If you don’t work on the print industry, you really don’t need to be using Windows at all, and later down the line, CMYK support will be implemented, making Windows not even usable in niche situations.
