Oblivion Remastered Becomes Top-Selling Game of 2025

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has soared to one of the top games of 2025, reaching the feat within just two weeks of its launch. The remastered remake of the classic 2006 RPG has been receiving widespread praise for its improved graphics and gameplay, drawing both veterans and newcomers alike back into the classic Bethesda game.

The large number of players indicates how well the game is liked, with four million players during the first three days and over a quarter million players on Steam at the same time. Mat Piscatella, analyst for the video game industry, places Oblivion Remastered as the third best-selling title in the US to date this year, behind Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Whereas Monster Hunter Wilds sold over 10 million copies, Assassin’s Creed Shadows boasted three million players within its first week alone.

After just one week in market (w/e 4.26) Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remastered is already the 3rd best-selling game of 2025 in the US ($ sales) trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin's Creed: Shadows. It was the best-selling game of the week.Source: Circana Retail Tracking Service

The fact that Oblivion Remastered was initially released on Xbox Game Pass might have helped its instant success, although whether or not downloads of the game from Game Pass are counted as part of the game’s sales is uncertain. Analysts have made the guess that being available on Game Pass might be slowing its total sales, as some gamers might prefer to download the game instead of paying for it.

In spite of this, Oblivion Remastered has been among the top three best-selling new games of 2025. Yet, with the year scarcely more than half way through, its place can be threatened by releases later this year like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Doom: The Dark Ages. Grand Theft Auto 6, otherwise likely to be an outright winner in the number one position, has been pushed back to 2026.

The next few weeks and months will decide if Oblivion Remastered will hold its ground as one of the year’s best-selling games.
