Naughty Dog currently working on a second, unannounced game, director Neil Druckmann confirms

Neil Druckmann, the Creative Director for The Last of Us series, has recently confirmed that Naughty Dog is currently working on another unannounced game besides Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. During a Press X to Continue podcast, Druckmann has shared the news of developer Naughty Dog having another title in development that’s yet to be officially announced.

He stated, “There’s another game that’s being worked on at Naughty Dog where I’m in more of a producer role and I get to mentor, watch this other team, and give feedback and be the executive in the room. I enjoy all those roles, and the fact that I jump from one to the next makes my job very exciting and always feeling fresh. I’m never bored.”

Druckmann has also said that he’s working on Intergalactic with two other Naughty Dog directors, Matthew Gallant and Kurt Margenau, along with co-writer Clair Carré. And while it’s currently up in the air as to what exactly the unannounced title is, it sure won’t be another Uncharted title as Naughty Dog has clarified previously that they won’t be continuing the series anymore.

So there’s actually a sliver of a chance that the second game is another Last of Us title, as Druckmann had previously stated that a third game in the series could very well happen only if the story is actually worthy of it.

“While I am the caretaker of this franchise, whatever the title is that Sony has entrusted me with, it’s important for me that everything is of high quality. I don’t want to just make a lot of it. I want to just be very thoughtful about everything that we make,” Druckmann said in an interview with Sacred Symbols.

“When we did the show, now we’ve teamed up with, I feel like, the best TV-makers, with HBO. We’re making the best version of it. If we were ever to come back to it, I want to make sure that it’s a story worthy of The Last Of Us. I love that world. I love these characters. With the right opportunity, yeah, I would totally jump at it.”

Naughty Dog is known for developing narrative-driven experiences, so no matter what the currently unannounced game might be, it’ll definitely be another single-player focused experience with an emphasis on nuanced storytelling.
