There has been going around in recent times that Rockstar Games was working on a remastered Max Payne 3. Fans of the trilogy, always keeping the series in high esteem for its speedy action series, have welcomed the rumor with open arms.
The original Max Payne 3, which was released in 2012, was created by Rockstar Games when they purchased the intellectual property rights from Remedy Entertainment, the makers of the first two titles. Although Max Payne has never been the lead string in any sense to other high-profile Rockstar titles such as Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, the third installment grew the fan base for the series. Remedy Entertainment is now busy remaking the first two Max Payne games.
The news was initially broken on GTA Forums by Rockstar insider Tez2. Tez2 reports that, aside from in development on the next Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar Games is also working on a remaster of Grand Theft Auto 4 that may release later this year. Tez2 also spoke about a potential current-gen port or remaster of Max Payne 3, which may follow the GTA 4 remaster. There has also been speculation that these two games would be packaged with Remedy’s remake of Max Payne.
That is unlikely, however, that Rockstar would launch remastered editions of GTA 4 and Max Payne 3 prior to the much-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6, now planned next May. Rockstar Games have multiple in-house teams so that they can work on different projects at the same time.
Neither Remedy Entertainment nor Rockstar Games has made these speculations official. Fans will have to wait for announcements for hard facts. In the meantime, Remedy’s Max Payne remakes are set to release sooner and may even be featured in the Summer Game Fest in June.
