GTA 6’s New 2026 Release Window was to provide Rockstar ‘No Limitations’ to achieve it’s creative vision, Take Two CEO says

GTA 6’s recent delay to 2026, which is around a year from now, was entirely to make sure that Rockstar Games can achieve their unique creative vision without any limitations, according to Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. Which means the additional time will be spent on honing the game to perfection, just as players around the world expect GTA 6 to be when it releases. So even though the waiting can’t be easy for a lot of players out there, the payoff is sure to be worth it in more ways than one.

Take Two CEO has said that the closer GTA 6 got to it’s launch which was earlier slated to be during fall 2025, the need for ‘more polish’ became abundantly clear.

“As we get closer to completion of a title that’s seeking perfection, the needs or lack thereof, for continued polish become clear,” Zelnick said. “In this case there was an opportunity with a small amount of incremental time, we thought, to make sure Rockstar Games achieves its creative vision with no limitations. And I supported of course that approach.”

And while we do need to wait around a year for the game to actually arrive, the new amazing screenshots and details about the game world along with GTA 6’s trailer 2 would prove to be quite the appetizer for the time being.

Also, according to Take Two, development for GTA 6 actually began following the enormous success of Red Dead Redemption 2, which first came out in 2018 so that would give GTA 6 a total of 8 years of development when the game finally releases on 2026. The development cost of the game is also estimated to be well over $1 billion, which easily makes it the most expensive videogame of all time.

Take Two is also pretty confident about the new release window for the game as the company said “affording Rockstar additional time for such a groundbreaking project is a worthy investment,” and that GTA 6 has already become “the most anticipated entertainment property of all time.”
