GTA 6 Teases Old Vice City Character’s Return

Rockstar Games‘ much-awaited GTA 6[Grand Theft Auto 6] could witness the return of the series’ oldie but goodie. The latest trailer of the game has created rumors among the fans, who are sure that they have already seen Phil Cassidy, an old Vice City character, in action.

The trailer, which dropped a couple of days ago, provides another look at the universe of GTA 6, and sets up the male lead to be Jason. The storyline follows Jason and his girlfriend Lucia as they get involved in a series of crimes in Vice City, a city that is near and dear to the hearts of fans who have been playing the franchise for decades. Vice City, based on Miami, Florida, has been part of the series since the initial game of Grand Theft Auto and was the primary location for GTA: Vice City and Vice City Stories.

Though this new version of Vice City is in a different continuity than its predecessors, there are already rumors that fans are searching for callbacks and Easter eggs. One such possible callback is the return of Phil Cassidy, a weapons dealer who debuted in Grand Theft Auto 3 and has since become a staple in a number of spin-offs.

Sitting pretty in the trailer, eagle-eyed viewers noticed a character selling his guns shop in an in-game advert. The character reflects Phil, and the store also carries his name. Although some of the fans have commented that in this incarnation of Phil, the character does possess both arms, unlike original Vice City’s Phil Cassidy, who lost a limb, the reasons can be argued on behalf of the alternative reality of the game. The character is even suspected to be the son of Phil, conducting the family enterprise.

Regardless of his exact person, it seems Jason and Lucia will be able to purchase firearms from this individual, perhaps even having the option to complete side missions centered around the gunrunner. Having Phil Cassidy return, or an inspired equivalent, would be an excellent indulgence for those who wistfully reminisce about the PS2 era of the Grand Theft Auto series.
