Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is quite the neat title, however, many wrongfully attributed it as a game that comes from a humble studio, including myself. Sandfall Interactive is actually funded by a family of French people who owns a lot of important corporations, that is to say, there’s tons of money put into Sandfall Interactive, which breaks the spirit of indie games. Indie games are meant to be games made with low resources, by people like us, however, this does not remove any merit that Clair Obscur achieved, it truly is a good game. When the sea is filled with bad deals however, doing a teeny bit more of effort helps a ton. We at Infinite Start will cover this.
Sandfall Interactive was founded in 2020. The CEO of the company, Guillaume Broche, is the son of a powerful French corporate who owns 4 companies. These companies turn millions, which then go back to make them more cash in the long run. MBO+Investments, SCI MAGAR Real Estate, SC BROCHE and MYRTE INVEST are the companies owned by the Broche family. This puts them in a whole different league that barely compares to even a double A studio like Larian, breaking the illusion of this being an underdog production.
To add more to this, Guillaume started his career at a very important position in Ubisoft during the 90s, in a position that no regular person can actually hold. While the game is pretty good in its own, this is demoralizing towards indie developers who thought they could achieve results like this on the fly. However, not everything needs to have a high budget to be good, and as a matter of fact, plenty of projects with overblown budgets are actually quite bad. This was however not the case for Clair Obscur, who not only succeeded but fairly priced their game compared to the rest.
