Black Mesa is an excellent re imagining of the original Half Life for PC. Today is the 10th birthday of this passion project, and a huge update has dropped for everyone to enjoy. There’s a ton of improvements for those who were running the game on Linux, multiple crashes have been fixed and the game is more playable than ever before. Right now the game is also at a 90% discount, making this an excellent moment to pick it up. People need to celebrate this labor of love, as developers put their life into making things like this stand out and be great. We at Infinite Start will cover some changes.
For those who are on the Linux camp, there’s a ton of performance improvements made to the game, these improvements also fix many things on the Steam Deck. If you ever wanted to play Half Life on the go, snatching this one right now is the best thing you can do. While playing a shooter in something that isn’t a mouse and keyboard setup is rather convoluted for me, people have different skills and ways to enjoy things so I don’t judge.
From the list of massive improvements, a particularly nasty crash during the final boss has been finally fixed on Linux after years. While there’s no proper details on how that crash happened, it might have caused tons of frustration for the people who discovered it, right before finishing the game. Thanks to the contributions of many beta tester players, the team at Crowbar Collective has managed to not only fix crashes and bugs, but to also improve the overall game experience.
We also have to be grateful to those players to report and give feedback so projects can keep going smoothly. We are happy to celebrate 10 years of having this masterpiece that remains faithful to the shooter that shook the industry to its core.
