Touhou is an extremely important series that revitalized the dying bullet hell genre. The 20th main title has been revealed, and many fans are hyped for this. Back in the day, it was thought that the bullet hell genre would just reside on arcades forever. Touhou was the title that brought the joys of that genre to the comfort of our own home. Fossilized Wonders takes us back to the roots of the series, or at least the roots of the Windows series, since Touhou has existed even in the PC98 days. We at Infinite Start will cover what we know about this new title in the cult series.
ZUN is the artistic name of the developer behind this popular series. He started as a college student developing games with a group, and he was a virtuoso composer for the PC98 platform. Back in the day, music was constrained to sound driver limitations, and the PC98 worked with FM audio outputs. Therefore, what ZUN accomplished through the PC98 era was amazing, but it is often eclipsed by its magnificent pieces of the Windows era.
Leaving ZUN’s background aside, the man is still going strong, always bringing a ton of creative ideas to the table. This time, in Fossilized Wonders, it seems that the power up system is relegated to some mystical stones, which might perhaps be fossils. There’s still no proper details as to what this entails, but the only thing we know is that ZUN always respects game titles.
A trial version of the game will release in May 5th of 2025, which is actually pretty soon. We Touhou fans need to be more patient to get to enjoy yet another game that will put our reflexes to test. If you are new to the series yourself, you can jump into it, and get ready for some hectic action.
