Oblivion Remastered Provides Unbelievable Affinity to Skyrim

For older hands at the Elder Scrolls series, the remastered Oblivion is something of a trip back to the comforting limits of Cyrodiil. But other than the standard graphical refresh and gameplay refinements, there is something particular that has been teased, giving the next installment of the series, Skyrim, an even more intimate connection. As seen in a recent post on Reddit, the remastered version silently includes the legendary Throat of the World, the grand mountain rising high above Skyrim’s horizon.

This addition is a wonderful Easter egg for those who have visited both Skyrim and Cyrodiil. To see this familiar landmark through the eyes of the world of Oblivion provides a very real sense of connection between these two disparate, yet related, worlds. To fans who appreciate the continuity and mythology of the Elder Scrolls game series, this Easter egg is a considerate addition to the experience.

Other than this tantalizing tidbit, the Oblivion remastered version also promises to be accompanied by an update package meant to usher the classic game into the current generation. Players will be treated to improved graphics, improved artificial intelligence for both enemy and non-playable characters, and an increased array of weapons and armor sets. All of these go toward making the game more refined and more beautiful while retaining the very core aspects that made the original Oblivion so iconic.

The addition of Throat of the World is not a cosmetic surface addition; it is a sign of how much the developers respect where the fanbase stands and want to incorporate subtle threads that interweave the different chapters of Elder Scrolls. With anticipation mounting for Oblivion Remastered to drop, this revelation adds yet another level of intrigue for veterans and new inductees alike to relive all over again the vast legacy of Tamriel. It is a reminder of nostalgia of what Bethesda Game Studios meticulously built all these years, and that is an enormously interconnected world that they are all eagerly awaiting.
