Nintendo’s greed causes game prices to skyrocket in 2025

Nintendo is one of the most important game companies in the gaming sphere. They have been a big player since decades ago after the video game crash that was caused by the American game industry. However, nothing lasts forever, and we seem to be nearing another crash of video games, especially with the new prices. Paying 90 dollars for access to a single physical game is egregious, and 80 dollars for a digital copy is also horrendous. Big companies promised every single one of us that digital would make games cheaper, not more expensive. Consumers will unfortunately keep consuming until they go broke.

Nintendo is the new villain

It was rumored for a long time now since 2024, that games would end up costing around a 100 dollars. The current reveal by Nintendo isn’t far from the rumor that ended up being true, games will rise in price. You will still not own them since they are linked to servers even in physical form, and the content provided by them is exactly the same, or even less than what you paid for when it was 60 or 70 dollars. Not to mention that most of the games will be tied to live service gunk like the one that EA does.

People still will pay, but the user base is clearly dwindling, no matter what reports or statistics say, most of sales numbers for current games are inflated, scalpers are also buyers too. Video games have lost their creative spark, people will cry “Nostalgia!” to however is able to recognize that fact, without properly refuting with a counterpoint. There is a glimmer of hope, the cost of living is increasing each day for many, so many people won’t be able to access these games.

This in turn will cause a catastrophic triple A crash that will end up finishing the market of big corporations in the industry. Who would have thought that Nintendo could be the next Atari?
