Game Sizes for the Nintendo Switch 2 Revealed

Nintendo has recently confirmed many of the game sizes for the upcoming Switch 2 console, and they’re actually much smaller than expected which makes the 256 GB total internal storage of the console a much more fair and feasible choice for players. The storage on the predecessor of Switch 2, the Nintendo Switch was only 32 GB so the upgrade for the new handheld does seem pretty significant.

These are some of the recently confirmed game sizes for the Nintendo Switch 2, as revealed in the Japanese My Nintendo Store:

  • Mario Kart World: 23.4 GB
  • Donkey Kong Bananza: 10 GB
  • Nintendo Classics: GameCube app: 3.5 GB
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV: 7.7 GB
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World: 5.7 GB
  • Cyberpunk 2077: 64 GB

Apart from Cyberpunk 2077, most game sizes seem pretty managable and players should have no problem keeping multiple large games installed on the console’s internal storage at the same time. The beefier file size of an Open World title like Cyberpunk is understandable, though but apart from that, the 256 GB storage should do well with most titles.

A lingering question about the Nintendo Switch 2 has been how can the handheld console offer up to 4K resolution while keeping game sizes so much smaller, and a lot of it has to do with the console’s implementation of AI-driven upscaling technologies such as NVIDIA DLSS. Also, back in 2023, a patent from Nintendo was spotted that could enable much smaller download sizes for games while still rendering textures at super-high resolutions like 4K which was thought to be used in consoles such as the upcoming Switch 2.

The Switch 2 features a 7.9-inch LCD screen that can display all games at 1080p resolution, however, the Switch 2 Dock will also be able to output video up to 4K resolution and run games at up to 120fps which is great news for anyone looking to get the best possible visual experience on a handheld.

The Switch 2 will launch on June 5, 2025 and pre-orders will start at retailers in North America from April 9, 2025.
