Discord’s new CEO starts tomorrow, he worked for Activision

Discord is in big danger of enshittification. PC users really find the platform convenient, there’s myriads of niche communities to join provided you can find them. Lately, the entire platform has been having issues that range from many areas. From failing to protect minors, to ensuring dangerous communities remain intact, they have been weird to say the least. Along with this, concerns about privacy have also clouded the mind of many users, as they now consider migrating to other platforms that provide the same but better. People want privacy, it is a right after all, and we at Infinite Start will cover what can happen with Discord.

Discord is in big trouble

Humam Sakhnini will be the new CEO of Discord, his main claim to fame was actually fixing many games and making them grow properly with favorable changes to players. However, we cannot trust this sort of people in power, as they have proved time and time again that they are in for the money.

For all we know, the system might as well become based on a subscription model. Perhaps advertisements to undesirable servers might plague the platform. It truly is horrendous to see a main source of communication descend into a bad service. Alas, when you go public, you have to make the most amount of money possible.

To make that amount of money, you often have to rely on terrible tactics that affect the consumer. This can range from monetization, to aggressive data farming and profile making. Discord is not private, and all data is actually unencrypted when communicating with others. Perhaps the average Joe might not be able to see it, but someone with enough knowledge of Discord’s source code can leak the information.

End to end encryption is a must, in fact, private communication channels will be in the rise, Revolt and Matrix are two big alternatives that you can use which offer both privacy and the same features.
