The final major patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 came out on Tuesday, marking the end of new content additions for the game with future patches expected to focus almost entirely on bug fixes and other minor improvements. Developer Larian Studios has also added a heartfelt farewell message to the official patch notes, expressing their gratitude to the players and the community for their continuous support towards Baldur’s Gate 3.
“Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content,” the studio stated. “That means we won’t be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions. We’ve told our stories the way we needed to tell them, and tried our best to make them impactful and engaging, and we’re continuing to get better at handling our own chaos so that we can continue to create more chaos in the future.”
“From the start, your feedback has been incredibly important to us, and will continue to shape our future projects,” Larian’s message continued. “As [Larian CEO Swen Vincke] said during the Baldur’s Gate 3 retrospective panel at PAX West in August of last year, it’s time for the team to go back to our cave and hang the armour on the wall while we focus on bringing you our next project.”
The long awaited Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 adds Cross-Play support which enables multiplayer compatibility across players on PC, Mac, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 using the Larian Network. Allowing for seamless co-operative gameplay throughout different platforms, this feature has the potential to add a whole new lease of life into Baldur’s Gate 3’s Multiplayer.
Patch 8 also adds a total of 12 Subclasses into the game, one for each playable class. These provide unique abilities, animations, effects, and even new voice lines which will no doubt add a ton of playability into the single player campaign of Baldur’s Gate 3. The full list of Subclasses include:
The latest patch also contains a number of bug fixes alongside some minor gameplay tweaks plus features such as Steam Trading Card support for PC and a modding overhaul that enables partial level editing tools for modders.
