Zexion is pretty much Metroid in many ways, and its coming for PC. This new Sci-Fi Metroidvania is Nintendo hard, however, it decides to go an extra mile too. Many people tend to hate on hard games nowadays, maybe because they don’t know there’s a whole genre of chill games for them. As I always say, toggles are a blessing, and adding them to your game as a way to let players customize their experience is good. Back in the day, doing this in games was very common. Easy, Normal and Hard were things that slowly faded away from our gamer lingo.
Tomorrow, the game will launch, and it will be a complete experience. This is the first game made by Gallant Leaf, an indie dev who decided to stay true to its vision of difficulty, yet be lenient enough to add an easy mode. More people should take him as an example of how features should be handled. Removing difficulty to appeal to a casual audience can be detrimental in case there’s a pre-existing fan base. However, going to the other side of the coin, frustrating new players with a big challenge can put them off too.
Therefore, adding a toggle to select between an “accessible” mode is the way to go. Nobody wants to be forced into baby mode like Pokémon does to its players. Yet, there’s people who still wish to experience the game for other aspects aside difficulty. Perhaps doing an easy mode that serves as a distilled version of the game with a bad ending like the older days should be the way to go. After all, happy endings take effort to get and people have grown too complacent to the ease that modern games bring to them. If you are interested in this new Metroid clone, be ready for its release tomorrow.
