StarCraft might end in the hands of some of the worst companies of this industry. Blizzard Entertainment was revealed to be an awful company where severe mistreatment of their employees happened. However, I wouldn’t wish for StarCraft to end in the hands of even worse devils. Krafton, Nexon, Netmarble, and NCSoft are currently locked in a big war to see who can be the owner of StarCraft from now on. People should prepare to see a once beloved series banish in a pit of greed to never recover again. We at Infinite Start will cover what could come out of this bidding war that will change the future of the RTS.
StarCraft has been reduced even by Blizzard Games to a ladder centric experience. Grinding your way through the competitive ladder is the meat and potato of this experience, and some people consider it painful. People just want the ability to be able to enjoy casual matches, and if they wish to compete in high level things, tourneys should be done with proper prize support. This is how it used to be back in the days of the first StarCraft entry, people practiced online instead of climbing a ladder with arbitrary ranks.
Skill is something that cannot be measured by skewed numbers that are just made for people to spend more time in the game. The quality of games on the other hand is what matters the most, that’s why doing a proper tournament scene should be ideal to pit pros versus pros. Legendary players can then come out from them, and quality matches can be enjoyed by the people who tune in to watch the tournament. It is clear that Nexon, and all of these other companies plan to double down on this toxic version of competition.
Riot Games has set an example to not follow, yet, many of these companies will just copy it and start monetizing the game even further, with the probability of making StarCraft a pay to win game.
