Star Wars: Hunters Shutting Down in October 2025

Zynga and Lucasfilm Games have officially announced that Star Wars: Hunters will be shutting down on October 1, 2025, following the release of its last content update in April 2025. The hero-based arena combat game released in June 2024 as a long-term live-service game but eventually couldn’t sustain a big enough player base to keep the game running.

Even with a late launch, Star Wars: Hunters had a lot of potential at first, with the same PvP system as Overwatch but set in the Star Wars universe. Sadly, competition in the live-service gaming market was too fierce, and Hunters were unable to catch on. Even with how well the game did, it was not enough for Zynga and Lucasfilm Games to keep the game going past next year.

Final Updates and Shutdown Timeline

Even with the game’s shutdown, play isers are given a few extra months of playtime. April 15, 2025, will be the cutoff date for the last content update that includes a new Support Hunter, Tuya, who will be accessible to all players. Season 5 events will also be prolonged so that players may have time to enjoy their work before Arena Passes and purchases in-game are disabled.

While the game was designed to have a long shelf life, the live-service market’s aggressive competition has seen numerous games close down, including Concord and XDefiant. The delisting of Hunters from Steam search this year also heavily suggested its demise.

What’s Next for Star Wars Fans?

With Hunters being placed on sunset, the fans are now eagerly waiting for future games in the Star Wars franchise to replace the now-doomed title. Games like Star Wars Eclipse, the new Jedi game, and Bit Reactor’s strategy game may see the fans receiving something new.

Until the servers crashed in October 2025, though, fans can still play events and relish the last update. From the date of shutdown onwards, however, Star Wars: Hunters will be irretrievably unplayable, and yet another temporary live-service game will be gone.
