Minecraft Adding a New Block That Transforms Into a Pet Ghast

Minecraft is set to introduce a new dried ghast block, which will be available later this year. This unusual block is more than just a decorative addition—it’s actually a living creature that can be rehydrated and transformed into an adorable pet ghast. The dried ghast block will first be available in experimental preview versions before its full release.

A New Way to Tame Ghasts in Minecraft

The dried ghast block will spawn exclusively in the Soul Valley biome of the Nether, blending into the sandy terrain. While it looks like a regular block, it’s actually a dehydrated baby ghast. Players can collect and transport these blocks to the Overworld, where placing them in water will slowly bring them back to life.

After spending enough time submerged, the dried ghast will start smiling and transform into a ghastling—a friendly, baby-sized version of a ghast. Unlike their terrifying Nether counterparts, ghastlings won’t attack players or mobs, making them one of the most unique passive creatures in the game.

Rideable Ghasts and a New Way to Build

Players will be able to feed ghastlings snowballs to help them mature into happy ghasts. Unlike regular ghasts, these fully grown versions are not hostile and can even be saddled and ridden through the sky. What’s more, multiple players can ride the same ghast, making them a fun and creative way to travel.

Beyond being a mode of transportation, happy ghasts will also serve a practical purpose in Minecraft’s survival mode. Players can dismount mid-air and stand on them, effectively using them as floating scaffolding for large builds. This feature could revolutionize creative building and exploration, making the new ghastling evolution one of the most exciting gameplay additions in years.

When to Expect the Dried Ghast Update

This update will be part of Minecraft’s second content drop of 2025, a shift from Mojang’s traditional large annual updates. With smaller but more frequent updates, the dried ghast block and its transformations will introduce a game-changing way to interact with one of the Nether’s most iconic mobs.
