Hired Guns is pretty much a resurrection of Contra in the indie space that will release on PC soon. The visuals of the game are impressive, and they were all made with hand drawn techniques. This new project is made by a Polish developer with 17 years of experience in the industry who decided to go indie. He is not alone however, along with his wife, they have managed to create something that will capture the heart of many run and gun fans. We know that the game will drop in 2025, but we still aren’t sure when. We at Infinite Start will cover this new experience.
According to the duo, the game will drop at the very affordable price point of $5, which many of us will be able to afford. The charm of the game might be on its aesthetic, gritty yet fascinating due to the amount of work that goes into doing hand drawn graphics. There is also something extra however, a cast of 8 playable characters is the main feature. This was never seen before in any run and gun of this caliber, and it is truly a surprising inclusion. This wide cast will also cover different roles and be totally playable in the same level.
The way this will play out is with a nifty character swap mechanic. Similar to Mega Man X7, you can actually swap characters in the middle of the stage to play with others. It is clear that the game will take into consideration the level design, to maximize the usage of this feature. Perhaps there is characters that are better suited for combat, and others that aren’t but have other abilities. We do have a healer in this game, a first timer for this game genre.
If you are interested in this new approach to the run and gun formula, very sure to check out the demo and wishlist the game if you liked it.
