Rumor: Greek God of War New Could Release in 2025

There is a rumor that a new God of War game based on Greek mythology is in the works, with insider Jeff Grubb stating that it might release this year. Contrary to a remaster collection, the game is said to be a standalone side-story with a smaller scope, perhaps like The Last of Us: Left Behind or Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

New God of War Game to Delve into Greek Mythology Once More

Rumors of a new God of War project have been circulating for months, with some fans pointing to PlayStation job listings and Santa Monica Studio’s quietness as indicators. Jeff Grubb recently stoked the flames, saying that a new game is in development for 2025 and will be entirely distinct from the speculated God of War remaster bundle.

Most tantalizingly, the game is said to go back to the Greek mythological time of God of War, something that has not been done since God of War III. This would imply for the first time since the last game in this era, Kratos’ history could be explored in a significant manner. The information is very limited, but this implies some kind of exclusive storyline in Kratos’ early years or even a retelling of the Greek legend.

OK. Everyone keeps asking about this, so I've tried to find out more: There's still a Greek God of War thing coming out this year, but it's not a remaster collection. It's a new side-story project.

What to Expect from the New Project

Jeff Grubb said to “set expectations lower” for this and clarified that it would not be a colossal sequel in the style of Ragnarok. Instead, it could be a little, standalone adventure like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which did introduce new elements while acting as a bridge before massive releases.

Key Rumors about the New God of War Project:

  • It will not be a remaster package for God of War.
  • It’ll be Greek mythology-themed, perhaps as a side story.
  • The release timeframe might be in 2025.
  • It can be a smaller game, such as Miles Morales or Left Behind.

Although the scope of Cory Barlog’s project is unknown, Grubb did confirm that this is not the game Barlog has been developing ever since God of War (2018). Whether the game features Kratos or any other protagonist, returning to Greek mythology already has generated massive buzz among fans.
