Discord Desktop Client Receives Complete Overhaul with New Features

Discord is introducing major updates to its desktop client, enhancing the user experience through increased customization features, a new gaming overlay, and a more streamlined interface. These updates bring the PC client of Discord closer to its mobile counterpart, making users more flexible in their use of the app.

Major Improvements in Discord’s Desktop Revamp

  1. Enhanced Game Overlay

The game overlay has been completely redesigned for improved performance.

Rather than “hooking” into games, the new overlay consists of independent widgets, minimizing the chance of triggering anti-cheat.

The overlay is user-customizable, with voice call, stream, and friend stream widgets, bringing co-op play closer to split-screen gaming experience.

The new overlay is compatible with more games, offering improved responsiveness and compatibility.

  1. New Customization Features

Four free themes are now available for desktop users.

UI density settings enable users to choose from three levels of spacing.

The server list can be enlarged, displaying full server names instead of icons.

Voice and video call settings have been centralized for more convenient use.

Microphone and camera indicators have been improved:

Red glow on the mic icon when it is muted.

Green glow on the camera icon when it is enabled.

Why Is Discord Making These Changes?

Some analysts feel that these updates may be part of Discord’s IPO preparation. The company has been increasing the features and adding new ones, including the recently added “ignore” feature, and venturing deeper into in-game integration.

More Updates Coming in 2025

Discord has also assured that additional updates are in the pipeline during the year. These may include new features, more customizability, and additional enhancements of the user experience.

With all these updates, Discord is still cementing its position as the platform of choice for gamers and communities across the globe. And with the app’s regular tweaks and changes, Discord is clearly aiming for a perfect PC Version in the coming future.
