Diablo 4 Developer Responds to Loot Filter Feature Requests

A Diablo 4 developer has replied to the community’s longstanding call for a loot filter feature, indicating that Blizzard may introduce it in the future. Players have repeatedly asked for a loot filter since the game’s launch to help with the sheer amount of loot dropped during endgame content and boss fights.

In a recent YouTube developer Q&A, Game Designer Aislyn Hall spoke about the potential for adding a loot filter to Diablo 4. In Hall’s words, the team’s plan at the moment is to have all loot items be worth something, even if players won’t necessarily be using certain items. “The approach we’re taking with loot in Diablo 4 is that we want you to essentially utilize all of the parts of the animal. We want those drops to be worthwhile to you no matter what context or stance they are in,” Hall stated.

The developer position states that adding a loot filter would destabilize the game economy by encouraging people to share lower-level items, which is something that’s many times meant to be salvaged in order to create component material. While, Hall wouldn’t completely rule out the feature, stating, “We won’t ever say never to a loot filter wholesale.”

Despite Blizzard’s rationale, a call still exists for a loot filter in the endgame segment of Diablo 4, specifically the higher-level content where multiple dozens of loot need to be sifted through. Most players feel a filter would greatly boost quality-of-life without undermining economic balance.

Considering Diablo 4 devs’ continued reaction to fan backlash, there is always a chance that the feature could be added through a future update. The players will just have to continue sorting through their loot for the time being as they wait for the April 29th release of Season 8, which also introduces another massive content patch after the long Season of Witchcraft.
