It is surprising to see games evolve as an art form. And it is also surprising to see that the Wizardry Remake won a Grammy. Winifred Phillips, the composer for this amazing revival of the series must feel quite accomplished. Wizardry is one of the most popular Dungeon Crawling series that basically kick started the whole genre. Japan is especially obsessed with this series, and for a good reason, it truly rocks. We at Infinite Start will cover such a massive win for Dungeon Crawler fanatics.
After years of silence on the west, Wizardry makes a glorious return. The series has been stuck for a long time over Japan. You tend to see new games on that territory even today, especially mobile adaptations. It is understated how much Wizardry has inspired modern RPGs of today, being referenced everywhere. Of course, the series is rather obscure due to its high difficulty. This is one of those games enjoyed by people who really enjoy graphing maps.
Along with getting lost, Wizardry packs some nasty encounters that can rapidly cripple your team. Many players are addicted to the to the constant grind and learning process that the game provides. It is unfortunate, however, that these sort of ideas aren’t used that much anymore. It is very hard to find a truly challenging RPG nowadays, and even with that, people seem to oppose to the idea of turn based.
Actually, people love turn based, but they are told by current companies that they do not. By manipulating the perception of modernity, it is possible to lead people into unreasonable takes. It is nice to see that Wizadry, at least soundtrack wise, has annihilated the competition. Even Spider Man 2 couldn’t stand a chance against it, it is neat to see the classics teach a lesson to the newcomers.
