The Gex Trilogy will drop on Steam to the surprise of many

Mascot platformers were big in the 90’s, the Gex trilogy was a popular series that didn’t age that well. However, with plenty of snarky references and pop culture comments, the gecko is coming back to our PC systems, courtesy of Limited Run Games. While one can argue about the practices behind the company, they have done a decent job trying to preserve the older days. We at Infinite Start will reminisce of those days and add more input.

It’s tail time, baby!

The Gex series is comprised by average to good platformers, being the latest entry a full 3d title in the vein of Super Mario 64. The third entry was one of the most popular ones in the series, bringing interesting level design elements compared to its predecessors. One obvious thing however, is how dated many of the references on these titles will be to a newer audience. While the pop culture appeal might be lost for the young ones, the titles still remain quite solid for them to indulge in some Gecko action.

Even back in the day, many of the references were so specific that not many players got them either. It is surprising to see Limited Run Games trying to bring this title today despite its most important element being quite dated. People from today might not be aware that Dana Gould, a popular comedian from the time, is the one who voices the titular character. This provided Gex with many corny lines that have sticked even to this day, despite how cringy some of them might be.

This implementation of the trilogy is done with the power of the Carbon Engine, an engine made to try and remaster many older titles. Most of the power this engine carries is mostly graphics related, so do not expect many crazy things going on with this Gex remaster.
