Take-Two CEO Hints at Future PC Release of GTA 6

It seems the biggest game of 2025, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 or GTA 6 which is currently set for release this fall, will likely follow suit of it’s predecessor GTA 5 which was launched first on the consoles and came out for the PC platform much later. But as the gaming industry has become a lot more competitive in terms of multi-platform releases, it’s currently up in the air as to how it will work out for the upcoming GTA 6. And when asked by IGN whether GTA 6 not arriving for the PC on release would help or hinder the game in the long run, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick had this to say:

“So with Civ 7 it’s available on console and PC and Switch right away”, Zelnick commented regarding the recently launched Civilization 7, “With regard to others in our lineup, we don’t always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.”

He also admits the PC’s growing importance and significance in the current Videogame landscape.

“We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue,” he said. “Of course, there will be a new console generation.”

GTA 6

However, Zelnick also states that GTA 6’s release can very well mark an upsurge in sales for the existing consoles, which could definitely happen as both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are the only systems where one can play GTA 6 when it finally hits the shelves this year.

“When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles,” Zelnick said.

“And I think that will happen this year. I don’t think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I’m not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you’d want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC.”

GTA 6’s release could also see a huge spike in sales for the Playstation 5 Pro as among all the consoles out there, it’s the most advanced system available for the massively anticipated Open World title. It could also be that the PS5 Pro gets an additional 40 FPS Fidelity mode or something similar which offers higher image quality in GTA 6 than what’s possible on the other versions.
