PC users sometimes have to deal with a lot of Live Service slop being forced upon them. Capcom is trying their hand at making terrible Resident Evil Live Service titles too, Resident Evil Re:Verse was one of them. These kinds of Live Service schemes make Uwe Boll Resident Evil movies look like the best thing in the franchise. The franchise has been dragged around in a dead state for years now, and it seems that continuous remake slop does not stop. We at Infinite Start will cover an incident worse than that of Raccoon city.
It has been a while since the franchise hasn’t produced any meaningful game. The quality of current titles has drastically dropped compared to some of the originals. You could even say that the franchise died right when RE5 hit the store shelves, and you would be right. Just like movies, the more you keep elongating the hypothetical bubble gum with each entry, you risk breaking things. This franchise has already suffered that break decades ago, and what remains is a husk far from its original identity.
Existing merely as some sort of spiritual successor to the Famicom horror game, Sweet Home, this title was meant to be a scary survival game with very limited resources. As time went on, just like with many Capcom franchises, the identity of the Resident Evil franchise itself has been lost to time. Now the name solely exists to push merchandise and other media, since its now a widely recognized name, people will just consume it.
But that can stop, people can stop buying subpar quality productions. To reclaim what the IP originally was, fans of the franchise need to stand together and stop buying. Once the message is clear by doing that move, Capcom might reconsider bringing quality back to the table.
