Marvel Rivals Dev Comments on Chances of Switch 2 Release

NetEase Games indicated interest in making games for the new Nintendo Switch 2 and has confirmed that there are negotiations in place with Nintendo. Although Marvel Rivals was not available on the initial Switch because of technical constraints, the developers have been trying out Switch 2 development kits, leaving the door open for future support.

Since its January 16 reveal, the Switch 2 has been the subject of much chatter, Nintendo already having promised most Switch games would be backward compatible on the new system. Leaks and early rumor-mongering have still seen some Switch 2 models reportedly showing up on the black market, prices reaching as high as $40,000 reportedly in the pipeline. The scandals aside, hype is building as Nintendo generates buzz over more news regarding the system.

During an interview at the 2025 DICE Summit in Las Vegas, Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu discussed the possibility of porting the hero shooter to Nintendo’s next console. In his words, NetEase has been in contact with Nintendo and has been looking into the possibilities of the Switch 2. Wu clarified that Marvel Rivals’ omission of the original Switch was strictly technological, as the hardware would not be capable of delivering a smooth gaming experience. But the Switch 2’s increased power could potentially make porting simpler.

One of the switch 2 most interesting features is its rumored Joy-Con controllers that would be potentially mouse-like in nature. The feature would be of particular use with Marvel Rivals, where quick movement and accurate aiming are required for success in gameplay. Wu was not clear in confirming a switch 2 version but asserted NetEase would have no hesitation in porting its games onto the system in the event of seamless performance.

The announcement comes as Marvel Rivals is in the midst of a busy period. After Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman, the rest of the Fantastic Four, Human Torch and The Thing, will arrive on the roster on February 21. In addition, further information about the Switch 2 will be shared in a Nintendo Direct on April 2, which may provide more information about whether Marvel Rivals might ever come to the platform.
