LIMBO Dev Dino Patti Reacquires Jumpship

Dino Patti, co-producer of Limbo and co-founder of Jumpship, has re-acquired the indie studio from Thunderful Group, a somewhat surprising move after less than three years since selling or handing it over. With full control of the studio once again, Patti has hinted at a bold reimagining of its direction, focusing on fresh ideas and innovation in storytelling.

Jumpship, better known by Somerville, has undergone considerable change in the last years. Patti finally divested the studio dated late 2022 to Thunderful, but continued to be part of the team and left creative control in place. Instead, in November 2024 Thunderful went through a restructuring process that included job-losses and the schedule cancellation of a sequel to Somerville.

Today, the studio is in effect retroactively restarting under Patti’s leadership, as at present, the company has no employees. Despite the setbacks, Patti sees this as an opportunity to reshape Jumpship with a renewed vision. He stressed the need of “new ideas” in both game design and industry practice culture, and expressed hopes for the future of the studio.

A New Chapter for Jumpship

Patti has proposed Jumpship’s future is characterised by a major creative transformation. He spoke of his vision as a “radical recasting of how development teams can work together and innovate, while always upholding the studio’s foundation of being moved by characters and gameplay. He also joked that there will be more information on this new approach soon.

More than just his Jumpship day endeavour, Patti has also been doing smart things in the industry. According to GamesIndustry.biz, he has recently bought a stake in Viewfinder developer Sad Owl Studios and has become an advisory at Thunderful. Following the failure of Jumpship’s prior project, which ended a mere few months ago, it is unknown whether Patti will try again or begin again with a completely different idea. Either way, Jumpship’s future is once again in his hands—this time with a completely clean slate.
