Former Nintendo Employee Walks Away from Switch 2 Price ‘Leaks’

Before the release of Nintendo’s Switch 2, which is coming soon, its price has inundated the internet. Its console will be priced between $399 and $499, reports have indicated. But according to a former Nintendo sales executive, there is a caution against this.

Retail Leaks Not Accurate, Claims Former Nintendo Employee

The most recent remarks belong to a former Nintendo employee named Sean, who was part of the sales team at the company. While appearing on the Kit & Krysta Podcast, he stated that the retailers have no idea how much the Switch 2 will cost, and that they are “the last people that are gonna know” such things. His assertions, which were first reported by Nintendo Life, indicate that leaks based on retailers cannot be relied upon.

While others have estimated off analyst Joost van Dreunen’s estimate of a base price of $399, others rumors place the Switch 2 at $449.99 and a bundle at $499.99. However, as always, no word from the company makes any of these estimates but rumor.

Nintendo Direct April 2 Will Presumably Reinforce Pricing

Nintendo announced a special Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, where it will supposedly make additional Switch 2 announcements, such as the console’s launch games and potentially its price. The only known first-party game set to launch on the system is a new Mario Kart, although there are rumors of additional exclusive titles on the horizon.

The Switch 2 has already dominated the headlines with word that pre-orders of initial stocks are selling on the black market for up to $40,000. This can only pique interest in more news about the specs, price tag, and release date of the system.

Caution Advised Until Official Announcement

In spite of all the whispers, Nintendo veterans advise players to stay on their guard against price leaks. As Nintendo’s track record of reveals, the corporation won’t reveal the beans until it is well and truly prepared to make a public announcement—quite possibly earlier than April 2.
