Seems like EA released the source code for the old yet gold Command and Conquer series. This is a win for the modding scene and the community in general, and its also a good move on EA’s part. The series kinda got ruined thanks to EA being the publishers behind it, which is sad since the games had tons of potential. Command and Conquer is beloved in the PC community, and its truly an amazing RTS. Sometimes, it seems that EA isn’t that bad, but we have to remember they are still run by severely out of touch people. We at Infinite Start will cover these amazing news.
Now that EA has done this, they can’t go back on their decision, many modders have been awaiting for this to happen. Once a company drops the source code of a game, people in the modding community often go wild. The hard part of the modding process is reverse engineering the code to understand how things work. Oftentimes, the code of older games was essentially a mystery to many, due to it being locked to proprietary and private software. It was uncommon to use game engines to develop titles back then, so they often had to improvise a solution in-house.
The Command and Conquer series is extremely popular, right at the same level that Starcraft or Age of Empires was. The settings and gameplay have aged quite well and they are still being revered as masterpieces by some. EA also released some remastered versions on Steam, and the source code in based on those new releases. People now have a excuse to play these re-releases, but they could also use the source code to mod the original version. The modding community is thankful for this action, and it was truly unexpected coming from a company such as EA games.
