Devsisters Respond to Ovenbreak’s Magic Candy Blessing Controversy

Following widespread backlash, Cookie Run: OvenBreak developer Devsisters has announced significant changes to the recently overhauled Magic Candy Blessing system. The adjustments, revealed alongside an apology from CEO Kilhyun Cho, aim to address concerns about balance, fairness, and transparency in the game’s competitive play.

The Magic Candy Blessing system update originally expanded progression mechanics, but many players felt it introduced pay-to-win elements. Previously, ranked performance depended on skill and collecting jellies, but the new system shifted the focus toward obtaining the best blessings. This change led to frustration, with some players sinking vast amounts of in-game currency into acquiring special blessings without success.

To address the criticism, Devsisters is implementing the following changes:

  • The number of Magic Candy Blessing slots will be reduced from two to one.
  • Blessing point increases will be nerfed to one-third of their current value.
  • Yugwa Cookie’s Brilliant Blessing will be removed.
  • A Guaranteed Blessing Upgrade system will be introduced to reduce costs when maxing out blessings.
  • More ways to obtain Magic Candy Blessing Tickets will be added, though specifics remain unclear.
  • Players who purchased additional Magic Candy slots will receive compensation.
  • Regular Magic Candy Blessing 3+1 Events will be introduced.

The move to limit blessings to one slot and nerf their power aims to rebalance ranked matches, ensuring that high performance relies more on gameplay than random upgrades. The addition of a Guaranteed Blessing Upgrade feature should also alleviate frustration for players who previously spent excessive resources trying to enhance their blessings.

One of the most criticized aspects of the update was the increased reliance on RNG. Many players struggled to obtain high-tier blessings despite spending substantial amounts of OvenBreak currency. Devsisters promises to address this by introducing new methods for obtaining Magic Candy Blessing Tickets, though details are still forthcoming.

Alongside these fixes, Devsisters has acknowledged that their initial communication about the changes was inadequate. Cho apologized for the delayed response and reassured fans that player feedback remains a priority. While the upcoming update aims to repair the system’s flaws, it remains to be seen whether the community will fully embrace the adjustments.
