Dark Souls 3 will receive mods to smooth online play service

All PC releases by From Software had many quirks to smooth out. Thankfully, Dark Souls 3 will receive mods that will fix these issues. It feels as if the fans are the ones that put the most amount of love into the games. Online was always one of the biggest issues that the series had. Implemented with outdated code bases and techniques, most of these features never worked properly out of the box. We at Infinite Start will cover more details about this new solution and the past.

A mod that smooths out online play for Elden Ring is being back ported to Dark Souls 3 by a fan of the series. The original Dark Souls trilogy suffered a lot from plenty of errors and even severe vulnerabilities. From Software has always wanted to address them to ensure people could be safe while playing their games. Unfortunately, the publisher they have, Bandai Namco, is quite a slouch. After many delays caused by Bandai Namco deeming such security fixes as “unnecessary”, From Software closed down online features for the original trilogy.

After tweaking and fixing these mistakes, From Software managed to open some of them up. However, despite online being safe now, it is still a mess to deal with. Using peer to peer netcode has caused many connectivity issues in the past, and most of the online infrastructure for Dark Souls relies on it. Thanks to fans of the series, many mods have been released to both, protect players from malicious hacking attempts, and to enhance online.

The current mod that is being worked one wishes to bring players a seamless invasion experience similar to the fixes made to Elden Ring. Since code bases between each game are pretty similar, it is possible to back port many features to accelerate the process of development.
