Balatro is one of the most addictive indie titles ever created for PC. This Roguelike card game has managed to get millions of people hooked into a simple yet addictive loop. Developers from huge mega companies struggle to this day to make this in an ethical way. Therefore, companies often employ insidious tactics to try and manipulate players into spending. Balatro does not do that, the only payment you do is a payment to buy the title, the addictive part is the carefully crafted gameplay itself. We at Infinite Start will discuss what LocalThunk said about an update coming.
The creator of Balatro has announced that he is working in a huge update for the game, however, just like a pro poker player, he is hiding something. According to him, “I’m not going to get into exactly what’s going to be in it, because that also means I can’t pivot if something new doesn’t work. I think it’s healthier for the game that I keep my cards close to my chest, then give you the best version of whatever this new content update is.”
This is an excellent tactic to try and hype up players, withholding information can let the waters of speculation flow and bring more people into the game. We can assume that Balatro will get some new life with this update. Many mega corporations try to do this with various game franchises, but they often fail to deliver, or sometimes, they don’t do anything at all. Indie games are more hype worthy than whatever hyper realistic open world EA Games might be putting out in a deplorable state. The current gaming generation is still alive, thanks to the fact that indie titles exist in the first place.
There is possibilities of a game market crash happening if some more conditions align. The chips are down in this intense battle between indie games and corporate products.
