Avowed Features Clever Avatar: The Last Airbender Easter Egg

Early access Avowed players have discovered a funny Avatar: The Last Airbender Easter egg, adding to the already long list of references Obsidian Entertainment’s new RPG has been riddled with.

A Cabbage Corp. Reference.

Reddit user TrashPuppy97 recently discovered a sales manifest within Avowed that appears to be written by Cai, the founder of Cabbage Corp. in Avatar: The Last Airbender. The document humorously laments how the “last market was hostile to cabbages,” a direct reference to the recurring gag in Avatar, where Cai’s cabbage-selling business frequently meets disaster, prompting his iconic cry: “My cabbages!”

Obsidian has a long history of including clever Easter eggs into their games, and Avowed is no exception. The game contains a thousand references to the Pillars of Eternity series, which it takes place in the same universe as, and lesser references to other RPGs like Mass Effect.

Avowed’s Early Reception and Future Outlook

Avowed officially launches on February 18, but Premium Edition owners who paid $89.99 have been playing since February 13. Initial reaction has been positive, with critics hailing its rich world-building, firm choices, and good art direction. The title boasts an “OpenCritic Strong” rating, with a mean of 81 and a recommend rate of 85%. There are a few reviews, though, pointing out that the conclusion is anticlimactic.

Obsidian’s RPG is one of two giant first-person RPGs releasing in February, two weeks before Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. RPG enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks, including Monster Hunter Wilds on February 28 and Assassin’s Creed Shadows on March 20.

As the title prepares for a full release soon, it will be worth seeing if players still uncover increasingly clandestine secrets in Obsidian’s expansive and complex universe. Till then, Avowed players can keep to their favorite RPG while keeping on the look for more clever Easter eggs.
