With Avowed reportedly slated for release on February 18 as an Xbox and PC exclusive, speculation about whether Obsidian Entertainment’s highly anticipated RPG will eventually land on PlayStation 5 has been making waves on the Internet. And now, such speculation is even more so as a recent interview with the game’s director, Carrie Patel, revealed a subtle reaction which may just have hinted at a future PS5 port.
For months, rumors have been circulating that Xbox is probably rethinking its exclusivity strategy, with several major exclusives on the console reportedly making their way to PS5. Forza Horizon 5 is also one of the many games already confirmed for a PlayStation release this spring, while Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and The Outer Worlds 2 are also expected to launch on PS5. Meanwhile, Starfield is heavily rumored to be announced for Sony’s console at an upcoming State of Play event.
Given this shift, it’s no surprise that Avowed has become a prime candidate for speculation. In a recent MinnMax interview, host Ben Hanson casually suggested that the game might find its way to PS5. Patel’s initial reaction—a slight nod before quickly shifting to a neutral shrug—has sparked discussion among fans, with many seeing it as an unintentional slip.
As of now, Avowed remains an Xbox and PC exclusive, with a day-one release on Game Pass. However, with Xbox already sending some of its biggest exclusives to PlayStation, it’s hard to rule anything out. While Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 makes more sense as a multiplatform release due to its predecessor’s availability on PlayStation, Avowed is a brand-new IP—meaning Microsoft could keep it locked to its ecosystem, at least for a while.
For now, Xbox players can prepare to dive into Avowed on February 18, while PS5 fans will have to wait and see if the RPG makes its way to their platform later down the line. With Xbox’s exclusivity strategy clearly evolving, it wouldn’t be shocking if Avowed joined the growing list of former exclusives making the jump.
