Atomfall Dev Teases Experimental Features That Might Redesign the Game’s World

Atomfall, the new post-apocalyptic RPG from Sniper Elite dev Rebellion, will feature experimental features that can redesign the in-game world. As per lead designer Ben Fisher, these events may alter enemy numbers, difficulty levels, and player experience, creating an element of unpredictability within the game.

Originally announced back in June of 2024, Atomfall has been compared to Bethesda’s Fallout franchise as a result of its post-apocalyptic world. The game is different from other genre games in that it gives a unique British spin to proceedings. Due out on March 27, 2025, Atomfall could be a breath of fresh air for survival within a post-apocalyptic environment.

Atomfall’s Experimental Features Could Shake Up Gameplay

During an interview with VideoGamer, Fisher described how the development of the game has provided the opportunity to take creative risks, saying, “There’s some experimental stuff you wouldn’t try somewhere else because you can’t guarantee a result. There’s events the player can trigger or completely miss that can have a huge influence on enemy population in the game world.” He recognized that those things may not always function as they should but was looking forward to seeing what happens.

These test events propose a dynamic universe in which the players’ decisions may influence the world in new ways. Whether through the conflict of factions, depletion of resources, or climatic changes, these would potentially provide a different playthrough each time.

A High-Stakes Experience

Fisher also indicated Atomfall would be a tough and intense experience, noting that the game is best when it has you leaping. “It’s a high-intensity experience but then rewarding for it because you put in that effort and then succeed,” he said. That would make Atomfall appealing to players who like serious, thinking-man’s gameplay with high-risk, high-reward design.

With Atomfall’s release on day one to Xbox Game Pass, players will get a look for themselves soon enough at how the experimental features unfold in the gaming world. Only time will tell if Rebellion’s gamble will ultimately pay off, but Atomfall’s unique design choices could help it be an MVP title for 2025.
